NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR REFUGEES AND IDPS (NCRI)

NCRI Delegation visits Galmudug State for National Strategy Consultation:

Friday, August 9 th 2024: A delegation from the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI) visited Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, for a four-day visit on Friday. They were met by representatives from the Galmudug Commission for Refugees and IDPs (GCRI).

The purpose of the visit was to initiate discussions and consultations on the National Strategy to Assist, Protect, and Find Sustainable Solutions for IDPs, Refugees, and Returnees. This strategy, spearheaded by the NCRI and developed with input from local and international stakeholders, will serve as the guiding document for all actions and processes aimed at addressing the challenges faced by Somalia’s displacement-affected communities.

The NCRI team was welcomed at the GCRI premises by Commissioner Abdulkadir Mohamed Sabriye, who provided a tour of the facilities and shared reports on the services and assistance provided to displaced communities in Galmudug.

The delegation also conducted a workshop titled “Understanding and Addressing the Dynamics of Displacement,” which was attended by civil society members, individuals with special needs, and IDPs living in Dhusamareb.

On the third day, consultations on the National Strategy to Assist, Protect, and Find Sustainable Solutions for IDPs, Refugees, and Returnees were held, with participation from Commissioner Sabriye and representatives from the Galmudug State Government.

This visit, which followed a similar trip to Baidoa in the Southwest State of Somalia the
previous week, underscores the importance of a unified approach to the strategic
consultations on displacement and NCRI’s commitment to ensuring a collaborative effort in
addressing the challenges faced by these vulnerable communities.
