What We Do

The NCRI, under Somalia's Federal Government and Ministry of Internal Affairs, plays a vital role in addressing refugee and displaced population challenges.

Refugee Returnees:

Refugee-returnees may face secondary displacement or protracted situations like IDPs if they can't return to their original homes. This policy framework covers both groups, respecting international agreements.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs):

Individuals or groups compelled to leave their homes due to armed conflict, violence, or insecurity, often to escape harm, are referred to as displaced.

Durable solutions:

A solution through which refugee-returnees and IDPs no longer have any specific assistance and protection needs that are linked to their displacement, and can enjoy their con- situational and human rights without discrimination on account of their displacement.

Repatriation:

Repatriation is the voluntary return of refugees to Somalia or their places of origin, respecting non-refoulement rights per the 1951 Convention.

Reintegration:

Former refugee-returnees and IDPs returning to their communities or chosen regions, accessing the same rights, systems, and services for peaceful coexistence.

Training

NCRI offers refugees training for market-relevant skills, education restoration, agricultural knowledge, and fishing industry support.
